Our History
Three Generations Strong

Founded in 1952 by Clint L. Stein, after returning from WWII and beginning his career at Ralph’s Neon. Clint later purchased the company, renaming it Hi-Way Sign Company due to its Highway 212 location and growing billboard presence.

In 1965, Clint founded ESCO Manufacturing, a wholesale sign company serving businesses across the world. He also patented The Rollformer, a machine that produces full sign frames from a single sheet of metal.

In 1972, the company officially became Stein Sign Display.

Mark Stein, Clint’s son, joined the business in 1980 and purchased both companies in 1988, leading significant growth and expansion—including opening an ESCO facility in Webster, SD in 2000.

In 2011, Stein Sign Display acquired Elite Signs & Graphix, expanding their services in the Watertown region.
The Next Generation

In 2014, Stuart Stein, Mark’s son and Clint’s grandson, became General Manager after years of hands-on experience in nearly every department.

On February 5, 2020, Stuart became the 3rd generation owner of Stein Sign Display.

In 2025, under Stuart’s leadership, the company proudly expanded operations to Sioux Falls, continuing a tradition of growth and innovation.
